Veterinary forensic pathology and animal welfare: a case of hypovolemic shock in a dog from a medico-legal viewpoint
Original language description
In this report, we described a case of a 1-year-old bitch who developed a fatal cardio-circulatory arrest following to hypovolemic shock during the surgical neutering via ovariohysterectomy. The pathophysiology of death was meticulously reported, and this comprehensive analysis delves into the crucial aspects to be considered during forensic autopsy. Finally, particular attention was given to the forensicaspects concerning the reconstruction of optimal medical practices and the assessment of the causal relationship and significance of any potential medical errors. The goal of this case report was to underline the legal implications of CPGs and consider how they may be treated by the law in the future. Given their potential impact on professional standards and liability, redefining CPGs should be prioritized within the veterinary profession. By doing so, veterinarians can navigate the complexities of professional standards while providing the best possible care for the well-being of their animal patients.
