Isolation of iridoid aglycons from underground part of Lathraea squamaria L.
Original language description
Lathraea squamaria L. is the holoparasitic plant widespread in Europe and Western Asia. In folk medicine, it was used in the treatment of epilepsy. The underground part was extracted with methanol and subsequently partitioned with immiscible solvents. The ethyl acetate part was chosen for further analysis where we focused on the polar substances which have not been identified in this plant yet. Several fractions were isolated from ethyl acetate part by means of the preparative liquid chromatography and they were further analyzed by using spectral methods. The NMR results indicate that obtained fractions contain the mixture of optical isomers of iridoid aglycons. The presence of iridoid aglycons has been determined in that plant species for the first time.
