    Background: To determine the complete nucleotide sequence of blaIMP-4-carrying plasmids in order to examine the nature of the genetic mobile elements involved in the acquisition and spread of blaIMP-4 in Enterobacteriaceae of wildlife origin. Materials/methods: Six blaIMP-4-carrying plasmids from Enterobacteriaceae species isolated from silver gull chicks (Australia), being representative of different sizes and replicons, were selected for complete sequencing. Plasmid DNAs were sequenced using the Illumina MiSeq platform and Oxford Nanopore MinION technology. Annotation and comparative analysis were performed using software available on the Internet. Results: Sequencing data showed that plasmids of different incompatibility groups comprised the blaIMP-4-carrying integrons. In most plasmids blaIMP-4 gene occurred as the first cassette of the class 1 integron In809, which also included an array of qacG2, aacA4, and catB3 cassettes. Plasmid pPp47 had a new integron, In1460, with the blaIMP-4, qacG2, aacA4 and qacG cassettes and interrupted with a group IIc intron. Most of the plasmids carried mph(A) region, chrA-like, aac(3)-IId and blaTEM-1b genes. Plasmid pEa1631 (85488-bp; Enterobacter aerogenes) was a derivative of the IncM blaIMP-4- carrying plasmid pEl1573 described from a clinical isolate of Enterobacter cloacae in Australia. Plasmid pEc42 (112530-bp; E. coli) belonged to IncI1 family and its MDR region within Tn1721 showed high similarity to pEl1573. pEc1675 (158433-bp; E. coli) was an IncF multireplicon plasmid being composed of sequences of diverse origin and punctuated by mobile elements. Nontypeable pPp47 (142085-bp; Proteus penneri) and pPm60 (113297-bp; Proteus mirabilis) were related to NDM-1-encoding plasmids recovered from clinical isolates of Providencia rettgeri and carried MDR region with blaIMP-4 integron within Tn1696 and sequences related Vibrio spp. genome. Plasmid pEc1677 (69785-bp; E. coli) was an IncX5 plasmid, and contained a segment encoding alcohol dehydrogenases and ABC transporters.. Conclusions: Even though common characteristics were observed in the MDR regions, unique features were found in most of the plasmid sequences underscoring their high plasticity. Plasmid. analysis revealed the involvement of two different, IS26- and Tn1696-associated, mechanisms in the mobilization of IMP-4-encoding integrons. These findings punctuated the significant role of mobile elements in the reshuffling of enterobacterial plasmids and mobilization of large MDR segments.
