Discontinual separation of toxic heavy metals from wastewaters by the reduction
Original language description
Our research was focused on the separation of thallium and cadmium from wastewater by reduction. This process is based on reduction of heavy metal with metal zinc in mixed reactors. The thallium concentration values varied within the range of 50-200 mg/land cadmium within the range 35-1000 mg/l. It was learnt that reduction is very fast process finished in 5 minutes and is carried out at laboratory temperature (10 to 30 °C). Optimal amount of powder zinc is 1-2 g/l of wastewater. It depends on the heavy metal content in wastewater and it is same for minimal reaction time. The 100% efficiency of separation was achieved, the concentration of thallium and cadmium can be reduced to the values of <1 mg/l. The results can be reproduced for wastewater with different composition, the top efficiency is also achieved for concentration of heavy metals about 1 g/l.
