    The monograph is an outcome of the research of the authors on recent developments in the field of education and ELT. It investigates the consequences of the curricular reform of the Czech educational system with the special emphasis on teaching pronunciation and reading literacy thorugh the use of children's literature. The monograph reflects the turbulent development of the last 25 years in the aforementioned field. The issues discussed are supported by the empirical data gained from teachers in the region of Hradec Králové.
