Why a psychotherapeutical attitude is necessary in thanatology : Social values in th last stages of life
Original language description
Death is a phenomenon frequently encountered by psychotherapeutists in their practice. Fear and anxiety can take control of individuals, paralyze them and influence them substantially on the subconscious level. Yalom underscores exclusivity as a primaryway to transcendent death; it can manifest itself in various maladaptive forms, e.g. the will to power. In psychotherapy the issue of death may induce a so called "liminal situation", i.e. it incites a radical shift in a way we view life; it leads to re-prioritizing and to the individual's mellowing. This process affects not only the dying, but also the ones accompanying them. It involves individuals in emotionally charged situations and makes them oriented on what is important and essential; it makes them prioritize. them oriented on what is important and essential; it makes them prioritize. Acceptin death is the most important moment for the dying one. However, not everyone is able to reach this difficult decision.
