Experience with Error Analysis in the FSU
Original language description
While learning something new, students always make errors and mistakes and foreign language learning is no exception to this rule. Nevertheless, such mistakes should not be perceived as a lack of talent, effort and attention in students. Mistakes provide important information not only to teachers, who receive feedback on the success of their teaching methods, but they are beneficial even for students who get a chance to understand the essence of making their errors and mistakes and to learn from them. Native speakers teaching their language as a foreign language soon detect a continual repetition of the same type of mistakes among members of one nation. With the aim to determine which linguistic phenomena cause problems to Czech pupils and students in learning the German language, the Department of German Language and Literature at the Faculty of Education, University of Hradec Králové, conducts analyses of mistakes made by Czech native speakers in written assignments in German. Results of two of these analyses are described and compared in this paper.
