Numerous films, documentaries and novels including their filmizations in the 21st century are evidence of the interest in analyzing the near history. This article focuses on the two totalitarian Systems, that are made again a subject of discussion in German prose after the year 2000, examining the different approaches to history and the different choice of topics of historical events, both among authors from the old and the new federal states.
