    Ontologies are sharable conceptualizations of problem domains. Their importance grows mainly in last few years, hand in hand with expansion of semantic web space, knowledge-based applications, natural language processing projects etc. In this paper, we explain the usefulness of ontologies; describe basic elements of ontologies and present ontological editor PRONTO written in Prolog programming language.
