The educational institutions have had mostly the role of creators of theoretical contributions toknowledge management (KM) since now, or they have conducted some practical applications incooperation with practitioners, but they can now be the objects ofimplementation of KM. However, evenhere we can meet different obstacles that need to be overcome. It is always necessary to identify andcreate a survey of organisational knowledge assets in a preliminary phase, which is one part of a newmethodology thatis developed on Faculty of Informatics and Management at University of Hradec Králové.The main goal of the paper is to describe specification of university environment related to knowledgemanagement; problems connected with the implementation of KM in this environment and depict selectedapproaches to identification of knowledge assets in authors# organisation.
