Manufacturing investments in the Czech Republic: An international comparison

The principal economic measures taken by the Czech Republic (CZ) over the last ten years to encourage investment in more advanced manufacturing technology are briefly described. The results of a survey large CZ manufacturing companies are presented whichshow the current levels of investment in AMT, the techniques and criteria used to assess AMT1 capital projects, and attitudes to the need for further investment. Comparisons are made with the results of earlier identical surveys in the UK and the US. The comparisons reveal numerous statistically significant differences. The current levels of investment in the Czech Republic are relatively low, the techniques used for evaluation relatively unsophisticated, the investment criteria used are more short term, and there is less concern about the need for AMT. It would appear that more generous incentives and stronger management motivation are needed if the Czech manufacturing industry is to compete effectively in the world markets.

V úvodu článku jsou popsány zásadní ekonomické změny v České republice v posledních deseti letech, které podpořily investice do vyspělých výrobních technologií. Dále jsou prezentovány výsledky šetření provedeného ve velkých českých výrobních podnicích, které ukazují aktuální úroveň investic do vyspělých výrobních technologií, techniky a kritéria používaná při hodnocení příslušných investičních projektů, a postoje manažerů k vyspělým výrobním technologiím a jejich potřebnosti. Byla provedena odpovídajícísrovnání s výsledky identických průzkumů provedených dřive ve Velké Británii a Spojených státech amerických a tato porovnání odhalila mnohé statisticky významné odlišnosti. Ukázalo se, že současná úroveň vyspělých technologií v ČR je poměrně nízká, techniky používané pro hodnocení příslušných projektů jsou méně sofistikované, jsou upřednostňována spíše krátkodobá kritéria a obecně lze sledovat i nižší zájem o vyspělé výrobní technologie.
