The Influence of the Prague section of DuOeAV (1870-1938) on the Alpinism
Original language description
The aim of this paper is to summarize knowledge regarding the activities of Prague Section of German Alpine Club since its foundation in 1870 to 1938, with focus on building huts in the Eastern Alps and review of their activities in context of the wholeGerman and Austrian Alpine Club. The Prague Section played a significant role in the development of alpinism in the Eastern Alps, which we support with evidence of construction of many huts, trails and roads and establishment of the first alpine mountainguiding organization. We introduce a significant personality of the Prague Section Johann Stüdl, whose initiative contributed to the fact that Prague became one of the centres of alpinism in the late 19th century. All the activities of Prague section contributed to the economic development of the related areas.
