History of Touristic Destination in Geografical Perspective (Kals am Grossglockner)
Original language description
This paper seeks historical and geographical context of the development of climbing and its influence on the geographical changes in the Alps. The methodology is based on historical geography, scientific discipline, studying changes of the geographical space in time. It is an interdisciplinary scientific discipline standing between geography and history. One of the concepts of historical geography focuses on the interaction between society and environment. It is important to explain these interactions, including the ambition to find general principles and trends. This outlines the life cycle of one tourist destination. As a example we have choosen the village Kals, lying at the foot of the Grossglockner, and serving as a starting point for climbers, who wont to ascend the highest peak of Austria. We suppose, that similar to Kals passed through the same historical-geographical evolution many alpine villages. The unifying factor in this case are particularly Alps as a tourist attraction,
