The article is directed toward to remote data acquisition and processing in power distribution with a focus on specific communication aspects of Intelligent Electronic Devices. The paper is divided in two main parts. First part focuses on a description of the main principles and control of remote data acquisition and processing. Second part of this paper presents specific requirements for utiliza-tion of data gathered from the Intelligent Electronic Devices and other key ele-ments of substation automation system. This paper is a result of cooperation with the biggest national power distributor in Czech Republic - CEZ, a.s.
