Original language description
The present study is considered with teaching German as a foreign language and its vocabulary in the Czech Republic. The author gives its present standing in elementary schools. Using many teachers´ and partially also her own experience she is exploring the teaching of basic vocabulary. She brings the characteristics of methods and some suggestions concerning the selection of new words when teaching beginners, twelve-year old pupils, in school or in private tutorials. Vocabulary teaching as well as learning strategies are explained, some of them criticized, many of them recommended.
