Pediatric Narcolepsy: A Brief Report.
Original language description
Narcolepsy is a chronic but nonprogressive neurological disorder that is characterized by poor control of sleepwake cycles. Currently, there are 2 types of narcolepsy: type 1 narcolepsy with cataplexy and reduced cerebral spinal fluid hypocretin levels and type 2 narcolepsy without cataplexy and reduced cerebral spinal fluid hypocretin levels.1 The onset of narcolepsy is already in childhood, between the ages of 7 and 25,2 but it usually takes 8 to 10 years before this disorder is diagnosed due to the comorbid conditions of other neurological diseases whose symptoms also include some sleeping isorders.3 The purpose of this study was to report on an exemplary case of a child narcolepsy whose early, thorough diagnosis could lead to the early management and treatment of this incurable rare neurological disorder.
