Alternative culture with special focus on post-hippies/post-underground in the Czech Republic
Original language description
The purpose of this article is to discuss the concept of alternative culture of the 20th century with special focus on post-hippies/post-underground in the Czech Republic. This alternative culture is described as a phenomenon ideally connected to the underground movement before 1989, i.e., before the fall of Communism, the so-called Velvet Revolution of 1989. This is due to the fundamental differences of historical, but also economic and political conditions. In addition, the authors list the key values, symbols and benefits of alternative culture, which form a contrast to the so-called popular culture that is understood (in line with the concept of the so-called Frankfurt School) as a product of the cultural industry whose primary goal is marketability and manipulation (in maximization of capitalism, propaganda).
