    A mechanical construction proposal of rehabilitation instrument for measurement and analysis of knee joint range

  • Original language description

    In the area of the rehabilitation, one of the most frequent tasks is a measurement of joint range. In the current time, protractors, goniometers and specialized systems with direct measurement are used to determine the joint range in static and dynamic measurements. Such systems lack accuracy and reproducibility of the results. In this paper, we introduce a mechanical construction solution of a novel instrument for measurement of joint range for knee geometry. In order to the device works properly, it is advantageous for it to be set to the correct measuring position before the measurement. The device is set in the correct position by aligning the axis of the through hole with a physiologically given point in the joint, and then the optical lines created by the line lasers are aligned with the other two physiological points on the given limb. The proposed device has the main advantages in electrical sensing and data visualization with wireless connection, it utilizes a line laser to instrument calibration and moveable construction may compensate limb curvatures. ©2020 IEEE
