Development of Bolivian opposition after Morales´s coming to power
Original language description
This article analyses the situation that has arisen after the 2005 elections when Bolivia at first sight seemed to be a country asunder based on ethnic, social, political and geographic polarisation. The primary goal of the text is to find an answer to the question "which defining criteria are apt for the current Bolivian opposition`" and whether this can really be described using the mentioned polarisation factors. The text will be focused primarily on the role, effects and the potential of contemporary opposition movements. Two main anti-Morales centres are identified in this article. The first is especially linked to the centre-right opposition coalition, Podemos which is an acronym for Poder Democrático y Social (Social and Democratic Power). The other center is linked with the autonomist movement concentrated in the "rich half-moon" departments with the greatest support for the decentralisation such as Pando, Beni, Tarija and the dynamically developing Santa Cruz.
