Post-War History of Visegrad Four Countries through Cinema. Methodological Commentary
Original language description
I this study, cinema is introduced as a relevant historical source for understanding modern history. Cinema is not interpreted here as idealization or as a deprivation of history but more as a valuable witness of contemporary society. Using this perspective, the author explores postwar cinema of Visegrad Four countries in context of its relationship to the ruling communist regime. Comparing several waves in Polish, Hungarian, Czech and Slovak cinematography, the article shows how this type of historicalsource can be used in comparative history of communist countries.
