Structuralism in František Kutnar´s Historical Thinking
Original language description
František Kutnar (1903-1983) ranks among the most significant personalities of the Czech modern historical science. His importance primarily consists in the creation and development of the structural approach towards the historical fact, a historical method as well as the very historical reality and its practical exploitation in research into Czech modern social and economic history. Kutnar´s original view is based on the tradition of Czech structuralism when he exploited some basic facts of literary criticism and philosophy for his definition of the historical fact. He drew attention to its structural character, i.e. to the structure, and further utilised this characteristic feature for research into collective facts on the social and economic history. He also made structuralism his basis for the search for an appropriate method complementing the causal-genetic approach elaborated by traditional positivism.
