This paper examines the permanent campaign of Ecuador?s President Rafael Correa, launched after his successful election in 2007. The paper will focus on the various areas of Correa?s permanent campaign which can be considered an instrument of his re-election in 2009 and in the recent February 2013 elections. When Rafael Correa became Ecuador?s President in 2007, he was yet another Latin American left-wing leader who came to power in consequence of the crisis of traditional political parties. Shortly after taking office, Correa strengthened his powers, which was possible as a result of the adoption of a new Constitution in a referendum. The new Constitution which came into effect in 2008 allowed him, moreover, to run for re-election in 2013 and thus stay in power until 2017.
