Anthropology, History, and Memory in Sub-Saharan Africa. In Memoriam Michel Izard
Original language description
Introduction to the special issue of the journal Social Evolution and History. The issue explores the manifold relations between history, memory, and anthropological research. The essays reflect three approaches to contemporary anthropological research on history. The first is a historicist perspective, the second reflects culturally represented historical changes, the third is a presentist approach. The issue shows that historical traditions are a part of struggle for power and resources between ethnicelites in post-colonial states.
