Postcommunism is Here to Stay: An Optimistic Anthropologist´s View
Original language description
The chapter shows and argues that what has become known as postcommunism has much more perennial substance than was originally throught. Comparisons between postcommunism and postcolonialism are well in place because both phenomena have a lasting nature.Postcommunist Europe suffers from path dependency. Decades of communist rule have caused enormous harm to the ethical values of Central-east Europeans. Postcommunist reality is marked by its neo-colonial character. Each postcommunist country has its ownumbilical chord linking it to the West. The model of Western liberal democracy is being copied without ensuring that the democratic mechanisms are examined for their efficacy. The result is "electocracy" rather than a broad participation in the political process. Political culture further displays characteristics of subject rather than participation model.
