Introduction: Migration and Mobility in and out of Africa
Original language description
In this first introductory chapter, we trace the literature on migration patterns in and out of Africa. African people have always been highly mobile as a response to demographic, social, economic, political and environmental factors. This chapter introduces also the multiple conceptualisations of mobility and migration shown in the various chapters. We also offer a short synopsis of each chapter and argue that there is no unifying way to conceptualise such a complex and complicated phenomenon as human mobility. Providing nuanced and complex analyses offered by various authors, we aim to show that this volume contributes to the repositioning and transformation of how Africa is represented globally
