This book explored the pre-electoral and electoral manipulation in Latin America’s hybrid regimes. As stated in the introduction, while the contemporary literature is filled with references to the presence of various forms of manipulation in hybrid regimes, relatively little attention has been paid by researchers (not only in relation to Latin America) to the analysis of their causes and effects. One of the reasons for this is that studies that have attempted to study the causes and consequences of the “manipulative menu” more comprehensively have tended to focus on older cases and the post-Soviet space.
