Towards the Implementation of Mobile Technology into the Experimental Chemistry Education

  • Original language description

One of the ways, how to integrate the information and communication technology into the chemistry education, is the video recording of chemical experiment. A number of authors or teachers is devoted, on a professional level, to the video recording of chemical experiments as an example of usage of the educational video record. Anyway, how the record of a chemical experiment would look like from the perspective of pupils using the mobile technologies during laboratory work? In this article, we give the case study examining the influence of changes in organizational conditions on the level of mobile technologies use in education according to The Substitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition Model (SAMR model). Specifically, the contents and formal quality of pupil's chemical experiment video records were examined. 29 pupils of the fourth year of eight-year secondary education aged 14 to 15 took part in the case study. They were monitored during three two-hour laboratory exercises under the guidance of their chemistry teacher with long experience. The pupils were asked to solve the assigned laboratory tasks and at the same time to process their video recording using a tablet, in one case without the specific instructions and in two other cases with exactly given instructions. The method of structured interview with the teacher and pupils, and analysis of video records of their products accompanying laboratory activity were used in the case study. The results show that appropriately selected instructions lead to a higher level of the mobile technology integration into educational process according to SAMR model.
