The significance of alternative punishments and measures in European countries keeps growing. Recently, restorative justice principles have influenced Czech justice trends. The paper defines alternative measures and alternative punishments in the context of Czech legislation. The context of the anchoring of the use of probation measures an alternative punishment is illustrated by a brief description of the history of the Probation and Mediation Service of the Czech Republic looking at the legislative basis of probation, basis of probation work and role of each officer. The practical part of the paper focuses on the evaluation of application of alternative punishment methods in the Czech Republic with aim at evaluating alternative punishment imposing trends.
