CESNET introduced NIL (Nothing-In-Line) approach to optical networking in 2002 and orientation on nation-wide Fibre Footprint in research and education networking in TNC2004. Collection and dissemination of expertise by CEF (Customer Empowered Fibre) Networks workshops 2004-2010 organized by CESNET. We have developed OpenDWDM to sustain independence on the development roadmap of a single equipment vendor, which is crucial for R&E networking.These days two companies manufacture devices under CESNETlicence and remote set-up and supervisory software for OpenDWDM devices developed by CESNET are operational. Contribution covers OpenDWDM deployment up to 2011.
