Towards Extended NetFlow/IPFIX

NetFlow export standard in versions 5 and 9 is widely used,but its successor - IPFIX format - is or will be implemented in many flow data exporters and collectors soon. With the IPFIX format we have a possibility to extend flow data with useful information from other OSI layers beside the layer 4,especially from an application layer. In thisrnpresentation,I will provide an overview of valuable features and values contained in the raw traffic data,but not in the network flows. List of these possible NetFlow/IPFIX extensions will be presented with practicalrnexamples. Last part of presentation will bring an overview of existing tools suitable for extending NetFlow/IPFIX format and it will discuss main limitations of such approaches. A discussion about other suitablernNetFlow/IPFIX extensions is welcomed after the presentation.
