Laparoscopic Pyloromyotomy - Yes or No?
Original language description
The purpose of this study is to compare the advantages and disadvantages of laparoscopic pyloromyotomy with the conventional Ramstedt pro-cedure. The authors evaluate nine laparoscopic pyloromyotomies performed from April 1998 to June 1999 and compare them with those of 33 open pyloromyotomy surgeries performed in the traditional way. The second group of children was operated be-tween January 1997 to June 1999. The selection of children for laparoscopic surgery was random and depended only upon the presence of an experienced anesthetist and surgeon skilled in laparoscopic sur-gery in children. The authors evaluate the weight and the age of the children, the duration of the surgery, the time to normal feeding, frequency of postopera-tive vomiting, surgical complications, duration of hos-pitalization, and postoperative administration of prokinetics if they were needed.
