Do plants affect the population dynamics of aphids?
Original language description
The maturity of embryos in the gynoparae and their flight activity depend on the time remaining for their offspring to mature. This has a major affect on the autumnal dynamics of host alternating aphids. For the gynoparae of those species that have onlyone primary host plant, which in autumn is only available for a short period of time for the development of oviparous larvae, there are advantages in quickly finding their primary host and producing offspring.
