Diel Fluctuations of Redox Potential in a Horizontal Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetland for Wastewater Treatment
Original language description
Redox potential (Eh) was measured in a treatment bed of the constructed wetland (CW) with subsurface horizontal flow for municipal wastewater treatment at Slavosovice, Czech Republic. The system for 150 person equivalents was planted with Phragmites australis and put into operation in 2001. The study is focused on diel fluctuation of Eh measured in situ in a reed bed of a constructed wetland. Redox potential fluctuated from -400 to +800 mV and significant changes of Eh were recorded in very short periods. Two interesting trends have been found in the diurnal course of Eh. The first trend is characterised by decreasing Eh during the light period (warm period in 0.2 m depth). The second trend is characterised by increasing Eh during the light period andis closely correlated with solar global radiation. The amplitudes of daily fluctuations of averaged Eh for warm and cold periods, respectively, were not too wide (maximally 60 mV). Some trends of Eh fluctuations were found in the studied
