The Drought Indication Based on the Ratio between Potential Evapotranspiration and Precipitation at Different Sites in the Czech Republic over the Last 50 Years
Original language description
The role of water in the climatic processes of the Earth is incontestable. If not considering underground water, precipitation represents the main water supply component in the water balance. In contrary, the main part of water loss in terrestrial ecosystems is evapotranspiration (ET) apart from mountains where run off may dominate. The ratio between potential evapotranspiration (PET) and precipitation can indicate the prevailing hydric regime of the field, landscape, region or larger areas. This studyaimes to use meteorological data from 17 stations all around the Czech Republic to derive PET according to Priestley-Taylor, in particular, PET/rain ratio over the past almost 50 years. The results are used to detect changes and possible trends in PET/rain ratio to indicate the changes in drought occurrence at different sites. The statistical relevance of these trends is investigated at annual, seasonal and monthly levels. The results show, that the trend in drying of the country is not
