Computation of full waveform moment tensors in a very heterogeneous mining environment
Original language description
Microseismic monitoring in mines is a well-established tool to minimise risk for personnel and to optimise production. The estimation of full moment tensors of microearthquakes may provide valuable information on presence and geometry of faults as well as on stress fields and their changes. In this paper, we test two moment tensor inversion techniques for investigation of mining-induced seismicity in the Pyhäsalmi ore mine. First, we invert P-wave first motion amplitudes and assume a homogeneous velocity model. Second, we invert full waveforms and assume a more realistic 3-D heterogeneous velocity model. We discuss advantages and drawbacks of both methods and compare their results.
