Early macroseismic maps in Central Europe
Original language description
Altogether 44 macroseismic maps for 26 weak and medium intensity earthquakes, which occurred in central Europe during the 19th century, were found, collected and listed. Critical review shows that especially for stronger events, advanced macroseismic maps were constructed in this region already before the settlement of macroseismic intensity scales and invention of the first seismograph at the end of 1870s. Four examples of the discussed macroseismic maps are reproduced.
