Magnetic properties of soils - a basis for erosion study at agricultural land in Southern Moravia

  • Original language description

Soil erosion is one of the mayor concerns to sustainability of agricultural systems in different areas. Despite an increase in the number of published studies, significant uncertainty persists on actual erosion rates. The most important natural phenomenacausing the erosion are water, rain and wind. The vulnerability of a field to soil erosion depends on a number of factors: the climatic conditions of the area; the water permeability of the soil; and the length and slope of the field. Other major sources of soil erosion and redistribution on hillslopes are farming activities, in particular tillage. Tillage is mainly implemented through mouldboard plough, which causes the detachment and movement of the entire topsoil layer. In agricultural land, the morphology and peculiarities of tillage practices are the main controlling factors for soil redistribution along the slope.
