Sources of Electrical Brain Activity Most Relevant to Performance of Brain-Computer Interface Based on Motor Imagery
Original language description
There are difficulties in interpreting the original EEG signals due to the overlapping of activities coming from different brain sources, due to the distortion of the current flows caused by the inhomogeneity in the conductivity of the brain and its covers and due to uncertainty not only in dipole source locations but also in the dipole orientation which determines the relation between its position and the EEG amplitude maxima which it produces at the head surface. These difficulties resulted in commonnotion that EEG data provide high temporal but very low spatial resolution comparing to fMRI data. Presented is more precise methodology how to match these two techniques to enhance both resolutions.
