Kappa Distributions and the Solar Spectra: Theory and Observations
Original language description
Emitted spectra reflect the physical conditions in the emitting medium, including the distribution of particle energies. The kappa distributions influence line intensities through the rates of collisional processes involving ionization, recombination, and excitation. Generally, these distributions lower and widen the ionization peaks, which can also be shifted to lower or higher temperatures. This can be used in diagnostics together with ratios involving lines with different excitation energies or different behavior of the excitation cross-section with energy.
