Transverse oscillations of a quiescent solar filament observed at the 304 angstrom EUV passband
Original language description
Quasi-periodic transverse oscillations of a quiescent solar filament based on the H-alpha and the 304 angstrom EUV intensity maps have been studied. Time-distance diagrams of filament intensity variations were produced. The method of the identification of local peaks on the time-distance diagrams allowed us to reveal non-linear transverse oscillations, which were interpreted as a transverse wave propa-gating along the filament with a characteristic period of about 13 min. The relatively small average wave amplitude and well pronounced period are in favour of the quasi-linear kink mode excited in the filament threads, which is modelled as the thin independent magnetic flux tubes. In terms of the phase difference for the propagating wave in two different points of the filament and the dispersion equation for kink modes, the Alfve ' n velocity (approximate to 60 km s(-1)) and the magnetic field (730 G) in the filament threads have been estimated. The nonlinear effects are discussed. (C) 2022 COSPAR. Published by Elsevier B.V.
