Transepithelial potential in mesonephric nephrons of 7-day-old chick embryos in relation to the histochemically detected sodium pump.
Original language description
Measurements of transepithelial potential difference (TPD) in individual segments of superficial nephrons in vivo revealed there the electrogenic transport. Their electric polarity was always lumen-negative. TPD was reduced by addition of 10 mM KCN to the nephrons from outside. Between proximal and distal tubules there was found a significant difference in TPD (-0.1 0.5 mV and ů2.2 1.0 mV, resp.) that corresponded to distribution of the histochemically detected sodium pump along the nephrons. The pump represented by the activity of K+-NPPase was demonstrated in the distal nephron segments exclusively. It is concluded that it is only the distal nephron, which possesses the ability of active transport.
