Paradoxical resistance to diet-induced obesity in UCP1-deficient mice.
Original language description
The relationship between energy expenditure and the development of obesity has been analyzed in mice lacking the mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1. These mice show temperature-dependent resistance to diet-induced obesity and slightly higher body temperature. Lower RQ, reduced plasma free fatty acids and elevated beta-hydroxybutyrate suggest preferential utilization of fatty acids in mutant mice.
