We describe the basic facts and a contribution of our group to the area of the research on mitochondrial uncoupling proteins (UCPs). We discuss the assumption that due to their low abundance the novel mitochondrial uncoupling proteins can provide only amild uncoupling, i.e. can decrease the proton motive force by several mV only. The phylogenesis of all UCPs, estimated UCP2 content in several tissues, and details of UCP2 activation are described on the basis of our experiments

Popisujeme základní fakta a příspěvek naší skupiny v oblasti výzkumu mitochondriálních odpřahujících proteinů (UCPs). Diskutujeme předpoklad, že z důvodu jejich nízkého zastoupení, nově objevené mitochondriální odpřahující proteiny mohou způsobit pouze mírné odpřažení, tj. snížit protonmotivní sílu jen o několik mV. Fylogeneze všech UCPs, odhadnutý obsah UCP2 v několika tkáních, a detaily aktivace UCP2 jsou popsány na základě našich pokusů
