The effect of N-acetylcysteine and N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine on nitric oxide production in the heart of spontaneously hypertensive rats

  • Original language description

  • Czech name

Účinek N-acetylcysteinu a N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptaminu na produkci oxidu dusnatého v srdci spontánně hypertenzních potkanů

  • Czech description

Both treatments improved the NO pathway by means of enhanced NOS activity, but only N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine was able to reduce blood pressure significantly. This implies that a partial restoration of NO level achieved by the antioxidants such as N-acetylcysteine has no therapeutic effect in adult rats with established hypertension..The observed antihypertensive effect of N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine is thus mediated by additional mechanisms independent of NO pathway
