Oxidative stress in immature brain following experimentally-induced seizures
Original language description
Status epilepticus (SE) induced in immature rats is associated with oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Oxidative stress is apparently due to both the increased free radicals production and the limited antioxidant defense. Pronounced inhibition of mitochondrial complex I activity was demonstrated already during the acute phase of SE and it persists during long periods of survival following SE. The findings suggest that oxidative modification of the enzyme is most likely responsible for the sustained deficiency of complex I activity
