Do stereoisomers of homocysteic acid exhibit different convulsant action in immature rats?
Original language description
Mechanism of ictogenesis of D- and L-stereroisomers ofnhomocysteic acid was studied in 12-day-old rats by means ofnantagonists of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) and alpha-amino-3-nhydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) receptors.nThere was no qualitative difference between the twonstereoisomers in generation of emprosthotonic (flexion) as wellnas generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Moderate differences werenobserved in the first, nonconvulsive effects of the two isomers.nAs generation of the two types of seizures is concerned, NMDAnand AMPA participate in generalized tonic-clonic seizures whereasnNMDA receptors play a dominant role in generation of flexionnseizures.n
