Seawater strontium isotope curve at the Silurian/Devonian boundary: a study of the global Silurian/Devonian boundary stratotype.
Original language description
The 87Sr/86Sr data from the global Silurian/Devonian boundary stratotype section fill the more than 1-Ma long lacuna in continuity of the standard marine seawater curve. These data generally correspond to theoretically expected (i.e., interpolated) values, but the slight differences suggest high-order oscillations that were coming with the beginning of the Devonian. An inconsistent positive deviation of 87Sr/86Sr values in a thin calcilutite/calciarenite rippled set above the S/D hardground horizon (within the bed 20) has been explained by means of the recycling of much older Silurian sediment but the still remaining compound may also reflect a serious gap in the S/D sedimentary record.
