The paper summarizes the present knowledge of geological and geomorphological evolution of the most diverse sandstone region in the Czech Republic ? the Bohemian Paradise. Complete characteristics are provided for each of the twelve districts and six geo-educational trails are proposed. The volume also includes a list of previous literature related to geology and geomorphology of the region, a glossary of terms, and a set of 16 photographic plates. The texts, the photos and comparative tables illustratescientific significance of the Bohemian Paradise in global context, and were taken as key documents to justify the inclusion of the Bohemian Paradise in the Network of European Geoparks of UNESCO in 2005.

Práce shrnuje dosavadní znalosti o geologickém a geomorfologickém vývoji nejpestřejší pískovcové oblasti v České republice - Českého ráje. Úplná charakteristika je uvedena pro každou z 12 skalních oblastí, kromě toho je navrženo šest geovědních naučnýchstezek. Práce rovněž obsahuje seznam starší literatury týkající se geologie a geomorfologie oblasti, glosář a soubor 16 fototabulí. Text, fotografie a srovnávací tabulky dokládají vědecký význam Českého ráje v celosvětovém měřítku a byly použity jako klíčový materiál pro zařazení Českého ráje do sítě Evropských geoparků UNESCO v roce 2005.
