Magnetic properties of high-Ti basaltic rocks from the Krušné hory/Erzgebirge Mts. (Bohemia/Saxony), and their relation to mineral chemistry
Original language description
Cenozoic Ti-rich basaltic bodies (3.5 -5.2 wt% TiO2 in whole rock analyses) are grouped in the broader vicinity of the Loučná-Oberwiesenthal volcanic centre and spinel group minerals (mainly titanomagnetite population with 12.7-20.1 wt.% TiO2) play a major role in rock magnetism. Recrystallized dusty Ti-magnetite from decomposed olivine and symplected magnetite-diopside occur rarely. Magnetomineralogic methods can detect the TiO2 content in titanomagnetite series using variations in Currie temperature,field-dependent susceptibility, and variations in the IRM spectra. Understanding of the factors that determine magnetization intensities within the target area is essential for reliable interpretation of magnetic anomalies and subsurface geology.
