Measurements by Portable XRF Spectrometr for Prospecting in Granitoid and Greisen Environment in Comparison with Conventional Analytical Method: Case Study CS-1 Borehole (Cínovec, Krušné Hory Mts, Czech Republic)
Original language description
This article evaluates the suitability of portable X-Ray fluorescence spectrometry (PXRF) in granite and greisen environment. The PXRF spectrometers are becoming increasingly popular, especially in geological exploration. Powder CRMs and samples from borehole CS-1, which were analysed by conventional methods, were subsequently analysed by the PXRF to test the ability of the PXRF method in granite and greisen lithogeochemical environment. Measurement accuracy (relative percentage deviation) was evaluated by comparing the PXRF values with certified values. The results of measurements of CRMs samples and samples from borehole CS-1 show that the PXRF can be very useful for determining many major and trace elements. We found excellent results when evaluating the accuracy of measuring three CRMs for Rb, Ce, Ta, W, TI and Sn (GnA) and good results for La, Nb (ZW-C) and Sn (ZW-C). Accuracy for the real samples was also evaluated, and we found excellent results for Rb and good for Y, Sn, La, Ce, W and TI. Comparing the conventional method and the PXRF, good correlation of both methods and a good possibility of using the PXRF method for a selection of samples for subsequent conventional analyses, which are much more expensive and time-consuming, was shown.
